2017 SHPF Keynote Speaker: Dr. E. Percil Stanford
Dr. Stanford will discuss the importance of creating inclusive communities and systems that support older adults, and why it’s important to “reframe” issues when discussing how the aging population is impacted.
Dr. E. Percil Stanford is currently the President of Folding Voice and also San Diego Kind Corporation. His career in the field of Aging began at Iowa State University where he was the first of a small group to receive PhDs with a focus on Gerontology. Through the course of his distinguished career, he served as a professor at San Diego State University where he was the Founding Director of the University Center on Aging, The National Institute on Minority Aging and the Gerontology Department.
At AARP, Dr. Stanford held numerous leadership positions, such as the Senior Vice President for Diversity and Inclusion and Chief Diversity Officer, West Region Director and Interim Director of the State Affairs Department. Dr. Stanford has authored several books and articles on a wide range of age-related topics, and served in leadership roles with the Gerontological Society of America, The National Center and Caucus on Black Aging, The American Society on Aging, and The National Committee to Preserve Social Security and Medicare. He has also been a delegate to the White House Conferences on Aging, and most recently was awarded the 2017 Hall of Fame Award from The American Society on Aging.
